The first 2016 exhibition at the Gloucester Gallery is by resident artist Leanne Barrett entitled Come Fly With Me which is a fun interactive installation. The Gallery will be filled with paper planes of various designs and sizes with tips and instructions on how to make your own. People are encouraged to fly their planes along a designated ‘runway’ and these will build up over the month to form a colourful display.
There are also paper plane mobiles for sale made from recycled picture books including favourites Winnie The Pooh, Noddy and Snugglepot & Cuddlepie.
A special feature of the exhibition will be a display of works made by St Joseph’s year 5/6 students. Inspired by the book and film “Paper Planes” they have produced fabulous origami, drawings, models and videos.
On Saturday 16 January 2016 there will be a special screening of the wonderful Australian movie Paper Planes in the Gloucester Soldiers Club auditorium (1.00pm), an imaginative children’s film about a young Australian boy’s passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan.
After the film we will be holding the inaugural Gloucester Paper Plane Championship!! See if you have the skills to make and fly your plane the furthest and become the first Gloucester Champion! All materials will be supplied. Everyone is welcome and entry is by donation.
“Come Fly With Me” is at the Gloucester Gallery from January 7 to 31. Join us at the official opening on Saturday January 9 from 2pm. Come in and fly a plane – it’s all about fun. For more information contact Leanne Barrett on 0428 508 704
